Description:
2,3-Dichloro-5-iodo-pyridine is a synthetic halopyridine compound that is used as an intermediate in the production of herbicides and other organic compounds. The iodination of 2,3-dichloro-5-iodopyridine with sodium or potassium iodide yields the corresponding 2,3-dichloro-5-(N,N'-diiodopropionyl)pyridine. This compound can be chlorinated to produce the dichloro diphenyl pyridines (DDVP). The product yield of this reaction is low.
