Product Information
Alpha-Euphorbol is a natural product that belongs to the group of inhibitors of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. It has been shown to inhibit the ABC transporter in wild-type strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans, but not in mutants resistant to prothioconazole or fluconazole. Alpha-Euphorbol was also shown to be an inhibitor of the human cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP51, which is responsible for transforming xenobiotics into water-soluble metabolites. Furthermore, alpha-Euphorbol binds to x-ray crystal structures of the ABC transporter and inhibits its ATPase activity. The binding mode resembles that of other drugs that are currently used as antimicrobial agents.
