Product Information
Isopropylbutyramide is an alkaline trisaccharide that yields N-isopropylbutyramide and D-isopropylidene-D-valine. It is a deacylated structural analog of the natural antibiotic erythromycin. Isopropylbutyramide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro by binding to phosphate ions, which are essential for microbial growth. The active form of isopropylbutyramide inhibits the synthesis of polysaccharides and exopolysaccharides from glucose in extracellular cultures. Isopropylbutyramide may also have antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative bacilli due to its structural similarity to erythromycin, which binds to bacterial ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis.
