2-Desoxy-4-epi-pulchellin is a sesquiterpene lactone with antimycobacterial activity. It has been used in clinical trials to treat colorectal carcinoma and cancer. 2-Desoxy-4-epi-pulchellin inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to DNA, preventing transcription and replication. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the growth of human leukemia cell line HL60 and human breast cancer cell line DU145. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation or its ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.
