Fmoc-L-Lys(Teoc)-OH is a nitrophenyl molecule that has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels form from pre-existing ones. It is important for the growth of tumors because tumor cells need to be able to grow beyond the initial tumor size. Fmoc-L-Lys(Teoc)-OH inhibits angiogenesis by interacting with achiral molecules that are involved in this process, such as polyamines and polysaccharides. This interaction prevents the formation of new blood vessels and also suppresses tumor growth.
Fmoc-L-Lys(Teoc)-OH also interacts with amide groups, which help stabilize its structure in solution. The crystal structure of Fmoc-L-Lys(Teoc)-OH was determined using X-ray crystallography and found to be cyclic, due to an intramolecular hydrogen bond between oxygen
