Formononetin-7-O-gentiobioside is a saponin that has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects and displays anticancer properties. Formononetin-7-O-gentiobioside is an eluting saponin from the root of Panax notoginseng, which belongs to the genus Panax. It has biochanin A as its main constituent and can be found in other plants such as Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Glycyrrhiza glabra, and Angelica sinensis. The estrogenic activity of formononetin may be due to its ability to bind to estrogen receptors. Formononetin-7-O-gentiobioside has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis in human leukemia cells.
