Quiflapon sodium is a polymerase chain inhibitor that blocks the synthesis of bacterial DNA by binding to the active site of the enzyme. The vancomycin hydrochloride x-ray crystal structures have shown that the binding site for quiflapon sodium overlaps with that of vancomycin, which blocks the synthesis of bacterial DNA by binding to the active site of the enzyme. Quiflapon has been shown to be effective in treating bowel disease, and has also been used as an anti-inflammatory agent. Quiflapon sodium inhibits leukotriene biosynthesis by blocking phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase enzymes. It also inhibits prostate cancer cell growth and may be useful in treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
