Spiro[chroman-2,4'-piperidine] is a novel compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and EGFR kinase domains. The heterocycloalkyl group is responsible for this inhibition by binding to the ATP site on the kinase domain. The phenyl groups are thought to be responsible for the significant cytotoxicity of spiro[chroman-2,4'-piperidine]. Spiro[chroman-2,4'-piperidine] also has demonstrated potential as a treatment for depression and trigeminal neuralgia due to its ability to act as a growth factor.
