DBD-NCS is an analytical reagent that is used to detect peroxides in organic solvents. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide and forms a fluorescent product. This reaction can be detected by measuring the fluorescence of the solution with a spectrophotometer or fluorimeter. DBD-NCS is also used in protein sequencing, as it can be modified to react with amino acids at their sulfhydryl groups, which are present in about one third of all proteins. The modification can be reversed using trifluoroacetic acid. DBD-NCS has been shown to have anticancer effects on animals and could potentially be used for the treatment of cancerous tumors.
