Description

(S)-3-Methyl-1-[2-(1-piperidinyl)phenyl]butylamine is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers. It is an organic solvent that is used in the production of other organic compounds and pharmaceuticals. The reaction to produce (S)-3-methyl-1-[2-(1-piperidinyl)phenyl]butylamine from methylbenzene, benzoate, and hydrochloric acid starts by adding hexane and hydrolyzing the resulting solution with a base to yield the desired product.
