- Glycycoumarin
Glycyrrhiza uralensis is a licorice plant that contains glycycoumarin, a coumarin derivative. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. It also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species in experimental models and has been found to have therapeutic effects on brain injury, hepatic injury, and drug interactions. Glycycoumarin binds to the penicillin-binding protein 2A (PBP2A) and inhibits the activities of various enzymes such as phospholipases A2, D, and C, which are involved in energy metabolism. This compound is found in a variety of biological samples including liver, lung, kidney and saliva.
