8-Hydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxyxanthone is a natural product that is found in the bark of the Brazilian tree Jacaranda mimosaefolia. It has been shown to have an antioxidant effect on cells by scavenging free radicals. 8-Hydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxyxanthone has also been shown to inhibit demethylation reactions and is a potential antiaging agent. The chemical reactions of 8-hydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxyxanthone are oxygenated and it has biological properties such as being acidic and magnetic. It can be quantified by gas chromatography with a mass spectrometer and its residue can be determined by TLC. The methoxylated form of the chemical compound is bitter in taste and has phenolic properties. This compound can be solvated in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone.
