Cycloheptylurea is a neuroprotective agent that has been shown to inhibit the function of cells in vitro. The mechanism for this effect is not known. It also inhibits cholesterol acyltransferase, thus inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol and other lipids. Cycloheptylurea has been tested in humans and animals with cancer and found to be safe with an antioxidative activity. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the inflammatory response in animals. Cycloheptylurea appears to be metabolized by oxidation of its nitrogen atoms. Its structural formula is:
