Daphnilongeridine is a member of the daphniphyllum alkaloids, which are potent anticancer agents. This compound class has been studied extensively, with many synthetic derivatives being identified that have improved potency and selectivity for cancer cells over healthy cells. The genus Daphniphyllum includes more than 100 species of plants, including the type species Daphniphyllum nigrum, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat fever and inflammation.
