Product Information
(4aR,8aR)-Decahydroisoquinoline is a protonated decahydroisoquinoline that has been shown to have anti-viral activity. It is one of the isomers of this compound, and it is also a ligand in metal coordination chemistry. (4aR,8aR)-Decahydroisoquinoline has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of HIV-1 protease and HIV-2 protease. This compound was synthesized from the marine sponge Luffariella variabilis. The reaction mechanism for (4aR,8aR)-decahydroisoquinoline involves an alkylsulfonyl group attacking the carbonyl carbon atom in the substrate with a nucleophilic substitution. Finally, it undergoes catalytic reduction by hydrogen gas at high pressure and temperature to form the final product.
