Tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) is a heterocyclic amine that may be used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent. THIQ inhibits the release of acetylcholine and has an inhibitory effect on the growth of k562 cells. Tetrahydroisoquinoline is also associated with autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, and cancer. Tetrahydroisoquinoline may have a role in the treatment of insulin resistance by decreasing the proliferation of cells in adipose tissue, which leads to decreased levels of insulin resistance. Additionally, tetrahydroisoquinoline may inhibit cell growth in cancer cells by inhibiting cyclin D1 activity.
