Saflufenacil is a diphenyl ether herbicide, which inhibits the growth of plants by binding to fatty acid synthase, an enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of fatty acids. Saflufenacil has been shown to have a synergic effect with glyphosate, therefore making it a popular herbicide. Saflufenacil can be used in analytical methods to detect the presence of solanum tuberosum (potato) and kidney bean in food. Saflufenacil also has been shown to cause injury to kidneys and liver when administered orally at high doses. Linear regression analysis has been used to determine its toxicological effects on animals after oral administration.
