Taraxerol is a natural compound found in plants. It belongs to the group of phenylpropanoids and has been shown to be an anti-cancer compound. Taraxerol has also been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against neuronal cells. The cytotoxicity of taraxerol is due to its ability to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, by interfering with the mitochondrial membrane potential. This leads to the activation of pro-apoptotic protein, which triggers the self-destruction of the cell.
