Visnadine is a coumarin derivative that has been found to inhibit signal pathways, such as the phosphodiesterase pathway, and to stimulate the release of cAMP. It also has been shown to increase the sensitivity of cells to forskolin, which is an activator of adenylyl cyclase. Visnadine has been demonstrated to have antiinflammatory activity in animal models. This drug also has been shown to be effective against alopecia areata in rats and women with chronic cough or bronchitis. Visnadin, a component of visnadine, inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression.
