2-(4-Ethylphenyl)-2-methylpropanoic acid is a Grignard reagent that can be used in the synthesis of alectinib. It is obtained by reacting acetophenone with n-iodosuccinimide, followed by the addition of an ethyl magnesium bromide solution. This reagent reacts with aryl halides to form Grignard compounds. 2-(4-Ethylphenyl)-2-methylpropanoic acid has been used to synthesize alectinib hydrochloride, which is an anti-cancer drug, and also as a high yield industrial chemical reagent.
