- Vancomycin HCl
Vancomycin is a natural antibiotic that is produced by the bacterium Streptomyces orientalis. It inhibits the synthesis of protein by binding to the peptidyl transferase center of bacterial ribosomes and is used as an antibiotic in medicine. Vancomycin has also been used as an antiviral agent, since it prevents viral protein synthesis. This drug binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocks peptide bond formation, inhibiting protein synthesis. Vancomycin is not active against fungi.
