Sodium azepane-1-carbothioyl sulfanide (SACS) is a selective spermicide that is used to immobilize and kill sperm cells. It irreversibly binds to the cell membrane of the sperm, causing its death. SACS has been shown to be effective against Trichomonas vaginalis, which causes trichomoniasis in humans. This drug is applied as a cream or foam, and has no effect on other microflora present in the vagina. SACS also has a fluorescent label for visualizing its binding to the cell membrane of sperm.
