Description:
Alitame is a high-potency, hydrogenated, and hydrochloric acid-modified aspartame. It has a sweet taste similar to sucrose with the benefit of not causing tooth decay. Alitame is effective at doses as low as 2.5 mg/kg body weight and has been shown to be well tolerated in humans. When ingested, alitame hydrolyzes into aspartame and methanol, which are then absorbed into the bloodstream. The metabolism of alitame in the body is similar to that of other artificial sweeteners like sucralose or saccharin.
