Bis(methylsulfonyl)peroxide is a reactive and corrosive chemical that is used as an oxidant in organic synthesis. Bis(methylsulfonyl)peroxide reacts with alkali metals to form a metal salt, which is the reaction product. The reaction vessel can be made of metal or glass and should be inert to peroxide and bis(methylsulfonyl)peroxide. The cationic monomer can be phenoxy, which will react with the bis(methylsulfonyl)peroxide to form an active polymerization agent. This agent then reacts with other monomers to form cross-linked polymers.
