(tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxy) acetaldehyde is a synthesis intermediate in the asymmetric synthesis of (R)-(+)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane. It can be synthesised by the reaction of an aldehyde with tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride and imine. The product can be hydrolyzed to give propargylamine or converted to esters using fatty acid chlorides. (tert-Butyldimethylsilyloxy) acetaldehyde is also used as an acceptor for piperazine, which can be used to form hydrochloride salts of amines and amides. In this way, it is used in the synthesis of fatty acid esters and organocatalysts.
