Galaxolide is a mixture of diastereomers that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in wastewater treatment systems. It also has high resistance to oxidation and biological attack, which makes it an ideal candidate for use as an antimicrobial agent. The BAC forms an ionic complex with galaxolide that can then be extracted into organic solvent.
