Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor that is used to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis. It is an oral drug that blocks the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) and increases the levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and increased blood flow.
