3-Bromobiphenyl is a diphenyl ether that is used in the production of acetonitrile. It also has radical chain reactions, which are initiated by an electron transfer from a molecule to an atom or molecule with unpaired electrons. The reaction products of 3-bromobiphenyl include phenols and hydroxybenzenes. 3-Bromobiphenyl can be used as an antigen for detection of antibodies and has been shown to have high concentrations in tissue samples. 3-Bromobiphenyl can also be used for the immobilization of activated carbon particles in order to increase the reaction yield. Activated carbon is able to react more quickly at high concentrations than under normal conditions due to increased surface area exposure to reactants.
