It also binds to functional groups on proteins and other molecules, which allow for selective targeting of certain tissues or cells. This compound can be activated by light, making it photochromic. The addition of an active oxygen atom enables this molecule to react at a faster rate than most compounds and also creates reactive oxygen species (ROS) in humans when activated.
