It is a crystalline compound that can be found in the heartwood of this plant. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may have potential as an anti-cancer drug. The x-ray crystallographic analysis of 3,10-Dihydroxy-5,11-dielmenthadiene-4,9-dione revealed the presence of a skeleton with two different carbon atoms at each end (dimers). These dimers are formed by the interlocking of two molecules and are stabilized by hydrogen bonds between the hydroxyl groups on adjacent molecules.
