Anisole

Description:
Anisole, also known as methoxybenzene, is an aromatic ether characterized by the presence of a methoxy group (-OCH₃) attached to a benzene ring. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet, pleasant odor reminiscent of anise, which is where its name is derived. Anisole has a relatively low boiling point and is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether, but it has limited solubility in water. Its chemical formula is C₇H₈O, and it has a molecular weight of approximately 108.14 g/mol. Anisole is used in various applications, including as a solvent, in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, and as a flavoring agent in the food industry. It can undergo typical aromatic reactions, such as electrophilic substitution, due to the electron-donating nature of the methoxy group, which enhances the reactivity of the benzene ring. Additionally, anisole is considered to have low toxicity, making it a relatively safe compound for use in laboratory and industrial settings.

  • Anisole

    CAS:

Anisole is a redox potential chemical that is used as an antioxidant and as a co-solvent. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as sodium salts, transport properties, absorption enhancer, and toll-like receptor. Anisole also has been shown to have a reaction with a diazonium salt and trifluoroacetic acid, which can lead to the formation of aniline. The reaction mechanism is not fully understood but it may be due to its ability to absorb kinetic energy from other molecules.
