Strontium chloride hexahydrate can be injected intravenously or intraperitoneally to treat patients with hypercalcemia or hypophosphatemia. This drug also has a toll-like receptor (TLR) agonistic effect, which may be due to its ability to stimulate the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α in macrophages. The optimum concentration for this drug is 1 mmol/L. Strontium chloride hexahydrate binds to plasma proteins through ionic interactions with chloride ions.
