This reaction results in the formation of an active metabolite that can bind to DNA and affect mitochondrial membrane potential. Indium (III) chloride has also been used as a contrast agent in fluorescein angiography or particle imaging techniques to visualize the presence of biological materials such as tissue necrosis or inflammation.
