Bicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-3-one is a bicyclic organic compound that has been shown to be an inorganic base, with a boiling point of 206°C and a melting point of -128°C. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in most organic solvents. This compound is used as an intermediate for the production of dioxane, which is used as a solvent and chemical intermediate. Bicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-3-one can also be used as an inorganic base for the preparation of methylene compounds such as ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
