Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate

Description:
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate, commonly referred to as DEHA, is an ester formed from the reaction of adipic acid and 2-ethylhexanol. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild odor, known for its excellent plasticizing properties. DEHA is primarily used as a plasticizer in the production of flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other polymers, enhancing their flexibility, durability, and workability. The substance exhibits good thermal stability and low volatility, making it suitable for applications in various temperature ranges. Additionally, DEHA is characterized by its low toxicity and is considered to have a favorable environmental profile compared to other plasticizers. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. Due to its properties, DEHA is utilized in a variety of products, including coatings, adhesives, and sealants, as well as in the manufacturing of toys and food packaging materials. However, regulatory assessments are ongoing to evaluate its safety and potential effects on human health and the environment.
