CAS 108-44-1
:m-Toluidine
Description:
m-Toluidine, also known as meta-toluidine, is an aromatic amine characterized by the presence of a methyl group and an amino group attached to a benzene ring. Its molecular formula is C7H9N, and it has a molecular weight of approximately 107.15 g/mol. m-Toluidine is a colorless to yellow liquid with a distinctive amine-like odor. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether but has limited solubility in water. The substance is primarily used in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. It can undergo various chemical reactions, including nitration, sulfonation, and acylation, due to the reactivity of the amino group. m-Toluidine is considered hazardous; it can cause skin and eye irritation and may pose health risks upon inhalation or ingestion. Proper safety measures, including the use of personal protective equipment, are essential when handling this compound. Additionally, it is important to be aware of its environmental impact, as it can be toxic to aquatic life.

CAS:
m-Toluidine is a coordination complex that is used in the detection of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The coordination complex binds to the surface of the carbon nanotubes and changes its electrical conductivity, which can be measured by FTIR spectroscopy. m-Toluidine reacts with a diazonium salt in methanol to form an intermediate that decomposes into a quinoline derivative. The quinoline derivative reacts with methanol to produce hydrogen gas and glycol, which oxidizes to form hydrochloric acid. The redox potentials for this reaction are -0.078 V for the oxidation of glycol to form hydrochloric acid and 0.063 V for the reduction of hydrochloric acid back to glycol. This reaction mechanism is also shown by nmr spectra.
Formula:C7H9NPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Clear LiquidMolecular weight:107.15 g/molm-Toluidine extrapure, 99%
