The drug binds to the kappa-opioid receptor in the brain and causes regression of chronic pain by suppressing glutamate release in the spinal cord. This drug has been administered to humans in a placebo-controlled, double-blind study and was found to be safe and effective for treatment of chronic pain.</p>
