:2,3-Bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-5-[(phenylamino)carbonyl]-2H-tetrazolium inner salt sodium salt (1:1)
Description:
2,3-Bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-5-[(phenylamino)carbonyl]-2H-tetrazolium inner salt sodium salt (1:1), commonly referred to as a tetrazolium compound, is a synthetic organic substance characterized by its complex molecular structure, which includes multiple functional groups such as sulfonic acid, nitro, and amine groups. This compound is typically used in biochemical assays, particularly in cell viability and proliferation studies, due to its ability to be reduced by metabolically active cells, leading to a colorimetric change that can be quantitatively measured. It is soluble in water, which enhances its utility in biological applications. The presence of the sulfonic acid groups contributes to its ionic nature, making it a sodium salt, while the nitro and methoxy groups can influence its reactivity and interaction with biological systems. Safety data sheets should be consulted for handling and toxicity information, as with any chemical substance. Overall, this compound serves as a valuable tool in research and diagnostic applications within the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.

CAS:
XTT is a tetrazolium compound that can be used to measure the activity of enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. XTT can also be used as an antibacterial agent against C. glabrata and as an anthelmintic drug against tapeworms. This compound is not active against other bacteria, such as E. coli or S. aureus, because they are resistant to oxidative injury and have high levels of ABCG2 (ATP-binding cassette G2), which prevents intracellular accumulation of XTT.
Formula:C22H16N7NaO13S2Molecular weight:673.53 g/molRef: 3D-X-5000
