CAS 1112-39-6
:Dimethoxydimethylsilane
Description:
Dimethoxydimethylsilane, with the CAS number 1112-39-6, is an organosilicon compound characterized by its two methoxy groups and two methyl groups attached to a silicon atom. It is a colorless, clear liquid with a mild odor, and it is known for its low viscosity and volatility. This compound is soluble in organic solvents and exhibits hydrophobic properties, making it useful in various applications, including as a silane coupling agent, surface modifier, and in the formulation of silicone polymers. Dimethoxydimethylsilane can undergo hydrolysis in the presence of moisture, leading to the formation of silanol groups, which can further condense to form siloxane networks. Its reactivity allows it to bond with various substrates, enhancing adhesion and durability in coatings and sealants. Additionally, it is utilized in the production of silicone-based materials, contributing to their flexibility and resistance to environmental factors. Safety precautions should be observed when handling this compound, as it may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

CAS:
Alkyl Silane - Conventional Surface Bonding
Aliphatic, fluorinated aliphatic or substituted aromatic hydrocarbon substituents are the hydrophobic entities which enable silanes to induce surface hydrophobicity. The organic substitution of the silane must be non-polar. The hydrophobic effect of the organic substitution can be related to the free energy of transfer of hydrocarbon molecules from an aqueous phase to a homogeneous hydrocarbon phase. A successful hydrophobic coating must eliminate or mitigate hydrogen bonding and shield polar surfaces from interaction with water by creating a non-polar interphase. Although silane and silicone derived coatings are in general the most hydrophobic, they maintain a high degree of permeability to water vapor. This allows coatings to breathe and reduce deterioration at the coating interface associated with entrapped water. Since ions are not transported through non-polar silane and silicone coatings, they offer protection to composite structures ranging from pigmented coatings to rebar reinforced concrete.
