:Ammonium paratungstate
Description:
Ammonium paratungstate (APT), with the CAS number 11120-25-5, is an inorganic compound primarily used in the production of tungsten and its alloys. It is characterized by its chemical formula (NH4)10[H2W12O42]·xH2O, indicating that it is a hydrated ammonium salt of tungstic acid. APT typically appears as a white crystalline powder and is soluble in water, making it useful in various chemical processes. The compound is known for its high thermal stability and is often employed in the preparation of tungsten metal and other tungsten-based materials. In addition to its industrial applications, APT is also utilized in the production of catalysts and in the field of ceramics. Due to its chemical properties, it can act as a precursor for tungsten oxide and other tungsten compounds. Safety precautions should be observed when handling APT, as it can pose health risks if ingested or inhaled, and proper storage conditions are necessary to maintain its stability.
