CAS 1119-51-3
:5-Bromo-1-pentene
Description:
5-Bromo-1-pentene is an organic compound characterized by its structure, which includes a five-carbon chain with a double bond between the first and second carbon atoms, and a bromine atom attached to the fifth carbon. This compound belongs to the class of alkenes, specifically a substituted alkene due to the presence of the bromine substituent. It is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature and is known for its reactivity, particularly in electrophilic addition reactions due to the presence of the double bond. The bromine atom can also participate in substitution reactions, making it a useful intermediate in organic synthesis. 5-Bromo-1-pentene is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. Its applications include use in the synthesis of various chemical compounds, including pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. As with many halogenated compounds, it is important to handle 5-bromo-1-pentene with care due to potential health and environmental hazards associated with brominated compounds.

CAS:
5-Bromo-1-pentene (5BP) is an antitumoral drug that has potent inhibitory activity against the t-cell leukemia cell line and other tumor cells. 5BP is an organoborane ester with a bromine atom at the 1-position. It is synthesized by reacting trifluoroacetic acid with a hydrohalic acid such as hydrochloric acid, or with a metal halide such as sodium carbonate, followed by reaction with dimethyl formamide and n-dimethylformamide. The 5BP molecule has a coordination geometry of octahedral and its structure consists of three hydrogen atoms, two methyl groups, one hydroxyl group, and one unsaturated alkyl group. The mechanism of action of 5BP is still unclear. The inhibition of protein synthesis may be due to the steric hindrance caused by the bulky bromine atom at the 1 position on the benzene ring.
Formula:C5H9BrPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Colorless Clear LiquidMolecular weight:149.03 g/mol5-Bromo-1-pentene
