CAS 112-85-6
:Behenic Acid
Description:
Behenic acid, also known as docosanoic acid, is a long-chain saturated fatty acid with the chemical formula C22H44O2. It is characterized by a straight-chain structure consisting of 22 carbon atoms and a carboxylic acid functional group at one end. Behenic acid is typically a white, waxy solid at room temperature and has a melting point that allows it to remain solid in various environmental conditions. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. This fatty acid is commonly derived from natural sources, including various vegetable oils, particularly from the seeds of the Moringa tree and other plants. Behenic acid is utilized in various applications, including cosmetics, personal care products, and as an emulsifier in food and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, it serves as a lubricant and a surfactant in industrial applications. Its long carbon chain contributes to its hydrophobic properties, making it valuable in formulations requiring stability and texture.

CAS:
Behenic acid is a fatty acid that has been used as a fluorescence probe for the detection of water vapor. It has shown to have antibacterial efficacy against bacteria including Acinetobacter baumannii, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Behenic acid is also known to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids in rat liver microsomes and to have biological properties such as the ability to induce hepatic steatosis. This fatty acid is found in some lichens and can be purified from them using an analytical method involving constant-pressure liquid chromatography. Behenic acid is also found in behen oil, which is produced by pressing nuts from the seed of the beech tree.
Formula:C22H44O2Purity:Min. 83 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:340.58 g/mol
