:Propane sultone
Description:
Propane sultone, also known as 1,3-propanesultone, is a cyclic sulfonic acid ester characterized by its five-membered ring structure containing a sulfonyl group. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a distinctive odor and is hygroscopic in nature. Propane sultone is soluble in water and various organic solvents, making it versatile in chemical applications. It is primarily used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of sulfonamides and other sulfonate derivatives. Additionally, it serves as a solvent and an electrolyte in electrochemical applications, including lithium-ion batteries. The compound is known for its stability under normal conditions but can undergo hydrolysis in the presence of water, leading to the formation of sulfonic acids. Safety considerations are important, as propane sultone can be irritating to the skin and eyes, and appropriate handling procedures should be followed to minimize exposure. Overall, its unique chemical properties make it valuable in various industrial and research applications.

CAS:Controlled Product
1,3-Propanesultone is a sulfonic acid that is used as a water treatment agent and has been shown to be an effective adsorbent for trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFSA). It has been found to have a high affinity for TFSA, which is attributed to its hydrophobic character. The adsorption of TFSA by 1,3-propanesultone was studied using human macrophages and monoclonal antibodies with group P2 specificity. The kinetic data showed that protonation of the methyl ethyl group at the 3-position of the propane-1,3-sultone molecule is essential for adsorption. High salt concentrations also affect this process.
Formula:C3H6O3SPurity:Min. 99 Area-%Molecular weight:122.14 g/mol
