Ciprofloxacin-d8 is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that belongs to the class of drugs known as quinolones. It is used in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections in animals. The LC-MS/MS method was used for the analysis of ciprofloxacin-d8 and its metabolites in animal tissues and human serum. The calibration curves were linear over the concentration range from 0.1 ng/mL to 10 ng/mL for all compounds, with correlation coefficients >0.9991. Ciprofloxacin-d8 has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
