6-Hydroxy-1-methyl-3-[1-[3-oxo-3-(4-phenylanilino)propyl]triazol-4-yl]-2-phenylindole-5-carboxylic acid (Lumefantrine) is a drug that is used to treat HIV. It inhibits the replication of the virus by blocking reverse transcriptase, an enzyme that copies DNA from RNA. Lumefantrine also has antiinflammatory and antiproliferative effects. This drug has been shown to inhibit autophagy and promote apoptosis in cells with HIV infection. Lumefantrine also reduces serum alanine levels, body mass index, and insulin resistance. The drug may have other side effects such as hepatic steatosis, polymerase chain reaction inhibition, and growth factor inhibition.
