N-Benzyl-N-ethylsulfamoyl chloride
CAS:N-Benzyl-N-ethylsulfamoyl chloride (NBSEC) is a reactive intermediate that is used in the synthesis of sulfonamides. It can be prepared by reacting anilines with chloroform or acetonitrile in the presence of sodium chloride to form chlorides, and then reacting these chlorides with ethylsulfonyl chloride. NBSEC has been shown to have a rate constant of 0.1 M−1s−1 at 25°C and 2 M NaCl, which is much slower than other sulfamoyl intermediates such as N-methyl-N-benzylsulfamoyl chloride, which has a rate constant of 6.4×10 M−1s−1 at 25°C and 2 M NaCl. In addition, it has been shown that the isotope effect for this reaction is significant and that anilines react more efficiently than benzyl amines.
