CAS:5-Iodo-2-hydroxybenzoic acid (5-IABA) is a molecule that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bladder cancer cells in vitro. FTIR spectroscopy and control experiments have confirmed that 5-IABA specifically binds to the cytochrome P450 heme, which is integral to the electron transport chain in the mitochondria. These studies also demonstrate that 5-IABA inhibits bacterial growth by binding to their cytochromes and preventing their electron transport. This makes this compound an excellent candidate for cancer treatment.
