2,3-Dihydrofuran

Description:
2,3-Dihydrofuran is a cyclic ether with the molecular formula C4H8O, characterized by a five-membered ring containing two double bonds. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature, exhibiting a distinctive sweet odor. This compound is known for its reactivity, particularly in electrophilic addition reactions due to the presence of the double bonds in the ring structure. 2,3-Dihydrofuran is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether but has limited solubility in water. It is often used as a solvent and as an intermediate in organic synthesis, particularly in the production of various chemical compounds. The compound is relatively stable under normal conditions but can undergo polymerization or oxidation when exposed to certain reagents or conditions. Safety precautions should be taken when handling 2,3-dihydrofuran, as it may pose health risks if inhaled or ingested, and proper storage is essential to prevent degradation.

  • 2,3-Dihydrofuran

    CAS:
2,3-Dihydrofuran is a compound that belongs to the class of organic compounds called heterocycles. It is prepared by the palladium-catalyzed coupling of malonic acid with 2-iodobenzoic acid. This reaction can be conducted in either solution or on the surface of a solid support and isolated with high yield. The reaction mechanism is shown below: H+ + HO - HO H2O HO - Pd + HO - PdO HO H2O The structure of 2,3-dihydrofuran has been elucidated through an NMR spectroscopic analysis. Hydroxide solution was used as a reaction solution for this analysis. The chemical shifts observed in the spectrum indicate that the hydroxide ion is coordinated to one oxygen atom and three hydrogen atoms on the two carbon atoms adjacent to the double bond.
