CAS:R-(-)-Clopidogrel hydrogen sulfate is a prodrug of clopidogrel, which is an antiplatelet agent. It is used to prevent thrombotic events in people with coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, or cerebrovascular disease. The drug is broken down in the liver and then converted to an active form by the enzyme CYP2C19. The R-(-)-isomer of clopidogrel has been shown to be more effective for reducing platelet aggregation than its S-enantiomer, with no difference in effectiveness between the two forms for reducing heart attacks and strokes. This drug can be found in wastewater samples due to its use as a therapeutic agent. The method used for analysis was LC-MS/MS and the excipients were not reported.
