    <p>5-Iodo-A-85380 dihydrochloride is an acetylcholine antagonist that blocks nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It is used to study the function of acetylcholine and cholinergic synapses in animals. 5-Iodo-A-85380 dihydrochloride is also used to study the effects of drugs on αβ nicotinic receptors and glutamate receptors. This drug binds to extracellular Ca2+, which reduces its effect on these receptors. It has been shown to decrease synaptic activity in rats, with a dose dependent response. 5-Iodo-A-85380 dihydrochloride has an inhibitory effect on fluorimetric assays for glutamate and amino acids, indicating that it may be useful in studies of neurotransmitter release.</p>
